Diabetes in children

The diabetes is a very dangerous disease; it can be the cause of a death at an early age. This disease is the disorder of metabolism; process that turn food into energy. When the digestion occurs the food is broken down to create glucose, the main source of energy of the body: this glucose mixes with the blood, and allows insulin in the cells.

There exsist 3 types of diabetes: Type 1 diabetes(previously known as
insulin-dependent diabetes) , Type 2 diabetes(previously known as non-
insulin dependent diabetes) , Gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM). The
type 2 diabetes is the most common and also the most dangerous because
affect 85-90% of the people with this desease.

Type 1 diabetes is the type that can appear at any age but is more
common to be detected at an early age.
“Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune disease where the body's immune
system destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. This type
of diabetes, also known as juvenile-onset diabetes, accounts for 10-15% of
all people with the disease”.

This disease have natural causes but it involves the diet in the person too.
“Is triggered by environmental factors such as viruses, diet or chemicals in
people genetically predisposed. People with type 1 diabetes must inject
themselves with insulin several times a day and follow a careful diet and
exercise plan.”

This disease is not common but in the world every day exist more cases,
but a strange data is that obesity doesn’t explain this increase because the
heredity play an important part in the type 1. But in Europe and America
the obesity in children cause the first cases of this type at an early age.

• in England and Wales 17 children per 100,000 develop diabetes each year
• in Scotland the figure is 25 per 100,000
• in Finland it’s 43 per 100,000
• in Japan it’s 3 per 100,000.

  1. Reading this rought draft, I think that parents need to care what his children eat since their born because is very important that children learn to eat, what makes good or not their health, because now at days this disease is becoming common so everyone needs to start doing something.
Learn to eat, not only avoid this and more diseases, also they could have very good health, and if children start have a good nutrition and in a future when they have their children they are going to be good because they don´t be inherit.

  2. I agree with rebeca, the parents shouyld be more careful of what their children eat. Because if the diabetes is not inherited, the diet plays an important role in getting diabetes or not.
I also think that we should learn how to eat healthy, in the schools, it is true that the primary education should come first from the family, but the school is an important part of a child's life.
